Focusing On Myself: New Territory

Today I entered new territory. For about an hour and a half today I could focus on just myself. It felt oddly weird though. I kinda felt bad as soon as I stepped onto the elliptical machine. Why though? Why should I feel bad if I take this time now that my oldest is in school to take care of my body? I don't know, I can't logically think of a reason, but still part of me does.

See now that my 5 year old is in Kindergarten and Braidy is under 5, I got a membership to a nearby gym. It has a pool and a hot tub and free childcare for members. I have struggled since Braidy was born to find the time to work out at home. Sure they say get your kids involved but, it never really worked. They would get distracted, would run off, start a fight with the other one, get in trouble doing something they weren't supposed to do because they knew mommy was distracted, and I'd loose my momentum, my motivation and drive to keep myself in shape. I was lucky with JJ that my body kinda bounced back right after having him, and with Braidy I'm actually the same weight pre-pregnancy too, but things hang differently on me now and I just aint happy with that. So for my birthday, I asked my husband if it was ok to get a membership and he supported that idea. So now with a membership and one child in school, I really can focus on "me" now. I've given up focusing on my own well being for five years now and its time....its time I take a little bit of time making "me" feel better.

Being a blogger, I tend to sit quite a bit reading emails, blogs, responding to comments, writing reviews, corresponding with brands, you name it, you know what it all entails if you are blogger and I dart between the office and the laundry room, the play room, the kitchen etc through out the day, but really it wasn't enough activity to get my body truly feeling good. Today, after a work out on two machines and a swim, I left that gym feeling great! I had energy again! I haven't felt that good in a long time.

Fitness Goals:
So for right now, I'm hoping to loose some inches around my waist, tone my tummy and butt, and to turn a 20 minute work out into a half hour work out and then longer after that. I'm starting off small and hoping that being active will also help combat afternoon fatigue. I also want to join one of the Zumba classes they have! I always thought it looked like so much fun.

What have you done for yourself lately? Do you feel bad as a mom when you get that time to yourself, or do you feel good about it?

You Need Kidecals On Your Back To School Shopping List!

This year I became the proud mom of a Kindergartner and for the first time ever, had to go school shopping for my son. We of course had to get backpacks, lunch bags, thermoses, folders, you name it. School hasn't even been in session for a full week yet and my child has lost his thermos twice and came out of his class forgetting his lunch box. Guess what? Every other kid seems to have the same trendy lunch box or backpack, so its a good thing I discovered

Kidecals makes labeling your child's school supplies fun! They have a variety of labels to choose from and you can write whatever you want on the label, your child's name and address, phone number or just your child's name and his teacher's name. We chose to do the phone number because I was hoping to make the labels last into next year! ;)

Now in this picture I've edited out the phone number. I don't want that floating around the internet. ;) But you get how cute they are:

The pack I ordered was the mini pack and it came with 120 labels!! That is a lot of labels and they are sure to last through the school year and probably next year as well.  But I think just for fun, I'll order him different ones next year. ;)

So far I've put the labels on his backpack, lunch boxes, thermoses (because they are waterproof), jackets and I'm sure I will be adding them to more things through out the year, and because kidecals are dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer safe, you really can stick them on anything!

(lunch box)

( another lunch box)

On his backpack (phone number edited out)

And just so you can get how much variety you have in designing awesome labels, here's just page one of the selection they've got going on at Kidecals for boys.

For boys

Or for girls!

I just love how you can make the labels completely yours and no other kid will have the same one!

Kidecals has all kinds of labels you can stick on things and I know one decal parents will appreciate is the "allergy alert" label! If you stick one of those on a child's lunch box, a teacher's aid can make sure kids sit at the right table away from what they are allergic to.

Allergy labels

Searching through their website I also found some doorbell stickers and fell in love with this one:

It never fails when I put Braidy down for a nap, my doorbell rings with a solicitor.

So as you can see Kidecals has an endless variety of labels or decals to choose from like these chalkboard labels.
Chalkboard labels let you hand write your own messages, and you can erase them and put something else on them later.

I also thought their keyboard stickers were fun! This would be a fun way to "girlify" my laptop! ;)
I highly recommend for all of your back to school labeling needs! Get your order in now before school starts!

I received a free set of labels to facilitate this review. All opinions are 100% mine.

REACT Mobile Launches the Sidekick In Addition to their Smartphone App

If you remember about a year ago, I reviewed an iphone app called REACT Mobile. I was really excited to use it because I had started bike riding then and I wanted my husband to be able to track my location if I was every injured or GodforBid Something else happened to me. Its a great app and when my kids get old enough for phones, I will definitely have them use this so I know where they are at, at all times and so they can easily call for help if they need to.

REACT SideKick just launched their campain on August 13th that changes the way people call for help in an emergency. Now instead of having to find your phone and open an app to hit a button to call for help, they have a wearable safety device that issues a widespread alert without the need to unlock a smartphone. The new React Sidekick is a low-energy, wearable Bluetooth safety device that pairs with a powerful safety app putting security within reach when it counts. This is great for runners, bike riders or heck anything outdoorsy where you want this device on you in case of an emergency. I would even have a child of mine use it if he was walking a long distance home from school.

From The Press Release:
“Since we launched our app (React Mobile) over a year ago, we've been continually evolving our software and it’s become clear that an app alone is not enough. That’s why we've created the React Sidekick,” said React Mobile CEO and Co-Founder, Robb Monkman. “The Sidekick provides peace of mind at your fingertips without the need to find your phone, unlock it, and dial. Simply press a button to send out a widespread emergency alert to friends and family.”

The React Sidekick’s modular, gender-neutral design is geared toward those with an active lifestyle, especially when alone or in new environments, meeting new clients, or in a new dating situation, you could think of many scenarios where you may want to have the React Sidekick at your fingertips. The React Sidekick easily pairs with the React Mobile app and can be worn on a clip, keychain and carabiner. It is also a great tool to give to children and teens so they can easily call for help in an emergency when their phone is out of reach.

After being the victim of an armed robbery several years ago, co-founder Robb Monkman developed the React Mobile app as a way to discretely send out a call for help. After launching React Mobile a year ago, Robb brought together a new team with product design and connected device experience to create the React Sidekick. That team includes hardware veteran Rob Bangerter who has more than 25 years of extensive experience in consumer products and created the world’s first app-enabled game accessory for the iPad. The team also includes Josh Buesseler, an award-winning industrial designer with experience creating products for a broad range of industries, from outdoor to consumer electronics and medical markets.

Kickstarter backers can choose between the black tricolored LED React Sidekick for $29 (early bird special) or a special only for Kickstarter color sold exclusively as part of a VIP package for $99.

See how the REACT Mobile app works with the Kickstarter:

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, React Mobile is an app and wearable tech solution focusing on transforming the way people call for help in an emergency. To learn more about React Mobile, visit

What Is The React Sidekick and How Does It Work?
The React Sidekick puts security at a user’s fingertips and eliminates the need to find and unlock a cellphone to call for help. In an emergency, click the Sidekick button to send out a panic alert to a wide network of trusted contacts. Simply click the React Sidekick button, and preselected friends and family will receive an emergency alert e-mail and text message letting them know where the user is and that they need help. Users can also choose to have Emergency Alerts posted on Facebook and Twitter.
The React Sidekick has a tri-colored LED visual indicator on the button that ties in with the React Mobile app. Green means the user is safe, yellow means contacts are watching over the users and following them to safety, and red means the user is in trouble and has sent out a widespread alert to trusted contacts.

Mia Mariu's Refreshing Foam Cleanser Review And #Giveaway

So awhile back I reviewed some Mia Mariu Make-up. I fell in love with a beautiful shade of pink lipstick I love wearing and a pallet of eye shadow and blush, so I am no stranger to their products. I just got a chance to review Mia Mariu’s Refreshing Foaming Cleanser. I like it because it reminds me a lot of the current product I use, which was recommended to me by a dermatologist for its gentleness on the skin. Back when I was having skin problems where I was prone to breaking out, it was recommended that I use a product as gentle on your skin as baby shampoo is on babies. A few months after washing my face I noticed less and less breakouts and this Mia Mariu Refreshing Foaming Cleanser has the same consistency and clear gel color as the current product I use. I like that it comes in a nice squeeze top bottle and can be easily closed up when traveling and is definitely a good sized bottle to fit in your cosmetic bag.

When you open Mia Mariu's Refreshing Foaming Cleanser you get a fresh scent of citrus, and the clear gel cleanser glides over your face with your fingertips so easily. There is nothing harsh about this cleanser, it will not leave your face feeling dry or irritated after washing it, like some cleansers do. Its as gentle as it comes to an effective face cleanser. The best part about it, is that its parabean free, sulfate free and fragerance free, even though you do smell that citrusy smell. It just means added smells are not put in into the product to make it smell a certain way. It has a citrus-y smell due to what is in it, which includes Aloe, marigold, sea kelp, sea lettuce, plus nourishing essential oils along with orange peel, lemon, lime and grapefruit. The aloe and sea lettuce are anti-inflammatory and will help with any reddening of your skin due to irritation.

Now due to having acne prone skin, I rarely do reviews where I put my skin through a lot of changes with different products. I like to stick to what works, or stay very close to what I know works for me when I do reviews, and because I know everyone's skin tends to be a little different, you have oily, dry etc. This gentle cleanser is really the thing that can combat both oily and dry or irritated skin and I can safely recommend it it to a wide variety of people.

Did you know that one reason a lot of people suffer from skin that is too oily is because they are using cleansers that are too harsh? They think they need to combat the oil with harsh facial cleanser and that only makes the oil production on your face worse. Using a gentle cleanser on oily skin can slow down that process. At least according to a dermatologist I know. ;)

Back a few years ago I tried one of those thirty day subscription brand kits. You know the kind? I'm trying not to name any other brands here but you've all seen the TV ads showing its a miracle cure for acne. Well it wasn't for me.  Holy shitballs did it make my acne worse! So not only was I combating more acne popping up everywhere, I had dry cracked peeling skin going on and when I called the company to ask what I should do, they said, "Oh just give it time, your face will adjust".  It never adjuste! Nor did I really want to keep putting stuff on my face every day that made it feel horribly itchy and red and gross just hoping it would "soon clear up". Stay away from stuff like that with a ten foot pole! If it has a bad effect on your face once, it will always have a bad effect on your face.

Anyway, back to Mia Mariu's foaming cleanser. Its perfectly gentle, if not really slippery between your fingers and is non-irritating. It will leave your skin feeling clean, refreshed and touch-ably soft.  I highly recommend it for both people who suffer from inflammation, moderate acne and oily or very sensitive skin.

I should also mention that Mia Mariu gave me some sample packets of things to try before and after using Mai Mariu's foaming cleanser. Two packets you are supposed to use together, one is a microdermabrasion thermal activator that  you are supposed to combine with the refinisher cream. It seems kind of like a  warm sea salt scrub for your face and I liked it. I rarely use stuff like that, so it was a nice treat for my face and my face felt tingly and very well cleansed after I used the foaming cleanser to remove it. I was also given a packet of the SPF 30 hydrating moisturizer. I'm not sure if I like the moisturizer though as I'm used to a much lighter face lotion and I think with the SPF 30 it made the lotion so much thicker. It would be fine for outdoor use, but it seemed to be too thick of a moisturizer for what I like to use on my face.

But back to the cleanser, which I give two thumbs up for, Mia Mariu is letting one awesome reader try a bottle for themselves, so if this has peaked your interest, please enter the giveaway below!
